This is a category-level buying guide, not a hands-on product test. Images are illustrative. Our editorial approach →
Measure the room
Record floor area and ceiling height. Compare manufacturer coverage claims only when the stated conditions are comparable. Open doorways and connected spaces can make your use case different from an enclosed test room.
Look beyond the coverage headline
Check the published clean air delivery rate, the conditions used for room-size claims, and noise levels at relevant fan settings. The setting you can comfortably use matters more than a maximum mode you rarely run.
Budget for filters and placement
Check replacement filter availability and cost. Follow the manufacturer’s clearance requirements instead of hiding the unit behind furniture. An air cleaner complements source control and appropriate ventilation; it does not solve every indoor air problem.
